I WILL PUT HIM ON OUR PRAYER LIST HERE AT OUR LADY OF THE ELMS CONVENT, AKRON, OH.
I will pray for his joyous return to God, our father.
Fr. Lewis Shea was 2 years ahead of my class in the Order. If you have a younger photo of him, I would deeply appreciate seeing it.
He will certainly be remembered in my prayers
II just got back to Nairobi after attending the funeral of Fr. Shea. It was a wonderful celebration his life and death, and respect for the Dominican Friars. I will return to Lagos on Tuesday.
I am a nephew of Fr. Lewie, as he was affectionately called. As a young boy I was impressed by his choice of ordination name - Fr. Lewis Mary. Lewis was his mother’s maiden name and presumably was selected to honor both his mother’s family as well as St. Louis. Mary, of course, was chosen in honor of the Blessed Mother. When I had to choose my confirmation name, I chose Mary because of the respect and love that I had for Fr. Lewie. Everyone in my class was asked to tell the confirmation name that they had selected. I must have been ridiculed by my classmates for my choice but noone ever said anything to me about it. The bishop did a double take when I was confirmed to verify the name. I wish I had known about a masculine form of the name, such as Marion, when I had to choose a name! Fr. Lewie was one of the most likeable people I have ever met and will truly be missed.
