A weekend of theological reflection and dialogue on accompaniment as an act of preaching and on preaching as an act of accompaniment sponsored by the Midwest Dominican Promoters of Preaching and Promoters of Justice.

A Liberative Look at Luke 7:36-50 and Strategies for Reading Other Lukan Stories Against the Grain
Barbara Reid, O.P., a Grand Rapids Dominican, holds her Ph.D. from Catholic University of Amenca and is Professor of New Testament Studies at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago. She is author of Choosing the Better Part? Women in the Gospel of Luke (Liturgical Preas, 1996), as well as numerous journal articles. Forthcoming works include The Parables of Preachers (Liturgical Press) and A Retreat with Luke (St. Anthony Messenger Press). With colleague Leslie Hoppe, O.F.M., Barbara has piloted a project on The Use of the Bible in Preaching, and has led CTU study programs and retreats in the Holy Land.

"Accompaniment - From El Salvador on..."
Jim Barnett, O.P., a Central Province Dominican, has accompanied persons with AIDS in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, since 1991. A founding member of the Los Frailes Dominicos community, Jim has committed himself with other Dominicans of the Central American Vice Province to the pastoral priorities of AIDS accompaniment, lay Christian leadership formation, and campus ministry. From 1983-1989 Jim was pastor of the 22nd of April Community of displaced war refugees on the outskirts of San Salvdor, a community taking inspiration from the living memory of Archbishop Oscar Romero.
