Bolivian Studium Update
March 30, 1999

The new Bolivian Studium is moving along well. The name of the new seminary is Casa Fray Antonio de Montesinos. (Friar Antonio was one of the first Dominicans in the New World to speak up for the rights of indigenous peoples). Here are some pictures that show the progress. We expect to move in much earlier than previously expected: the end of July of this year! The inauguration is set for Sept. 18th, the Feast of St. Juan Macias, OP. You're welcome to use that as an excuse to come visit Bolivia. It's Spring then, and beautiful here!

North View
This is a look from the North. The Chapel is in the middle. Note the railings, and the double cross, faintly inscribed on the back of the chapel. These will be painted black and white, Dominican colors.

East View
Here's the East wing. Note the railings and windows. We are doing paint tests now to determine the best colors to use. The pile of rocks in the foreground will be used to make a small grotto to the Virgin Mary for our Salve processions.

Media Center
This is the Media Center - Study Hall. It is above an open porch. The Media Center is funded in part by the Koch Foundation. It will contain materials for evangelizing, using various means of communicating the Gospel.

This hallway just needs painting and the installation of light fixtures. The building will include solar heated water, and recycling of waste materials. Hallway
Planting Here, some of the Dominican student brothers are planting juniper trees as part of the landscaping of their future home. The field on the right belongs to us, and will be farmed with the collaboration of Hogar San Martin. These abandoned and abused kids are learning agricultural skills in order to be useful citizens after they turn 18.
